Nowadays, digital photo camera is a piece of dentists’ everyday work equipment. The process of treatment is captured on photos and maintained in the data bases starting from the description of the problem and then the treatment process itself until the results.
Nikon’s D3000 series is widely used and acknowledged by the dentists. This camera that originally was meant for photography enthusiasts but it fits perfectly into the professional hands of medical workers as well.
At the moment, the cheapest and most suitable choice is Nikon D3200. Its 24.2 megapixel resolution sensor assures a detailed snapshots with little noise and natural colours.
It is the most relevant to the dentists that the camera they use is light weight and ergonomic. Since they often work with the camera using just one hand, the camera cannot be big. Nikon D3200 weighs 500 g together with the battery. The rubber handle ensures that this camera is comfortable to hold and it does not slip away.
Best lens for the dentists is Nikkor 85mm DX Micro f/3.5. Suitable zoom, light weight (355g) and f-stop enable to take close-ups from teeth and oral cavity and at the same time, this lens is good for taking portraits.
The most difficult assignment is directing the light into the cavity. Using a regular flash light is not a suitable solution. Here, Nikon can offer a solution. Wireless macro flash system R1C1 is a perfect kit – the flash lights are situated on the lens’ sides and this together with the adapter enables to light a very narrow area in front of the lens. The milky surfaces of the adapter’s reflectors and diffusers do not create sharp reflections on the teeth and gums – the mouth is lighted without shadows.
